METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods for removing gum from concrete depends on how long the gum has been there and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the chewing gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface, we might be able to remove it by covering it with ice until it freezes, then scraping it off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a more forgiving consistency compared to a gooey and sticky glob. Once the gum is frozen, we slide a putty knife or scraper under the gum residue. Then we move the scraper slowly beneath the gum and the whole piece should then peel right off of the concrete.

The above method is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove chewing gum that is already black, or is already smashed down into the concrete, we use a hot water power washer with the heat turned up to 200 Degrees in order to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal service, we won’t use very high pressure because that might ruin the surface of the concrete!

Our team never uses more pressure than needed to clean concrete surfaces. These surfaces can be damaged a lot easier than people think, especially if they’re only a couple of years old. Concrete can need up to 100 years to cure completely. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our gum removal professional.
